WIAW# 8: Trip to the Museum!

Here we are again! What I Ate Wednesday! Since we went to a local museum yesterday and brought our own food for lunch, I figured I would feature those Paleo eats on WIAW’s post today. Next week we are planning some day trips and plan on bringing our own food along and/or find Paleo “approved” foods at where ever we are at.  I will do a bigger post sometime before the end of this month featuring all the Paleo “approved” food items I ate on our trips and how it is possible to live Paleo while being out and about with the family.

As always don’t forget to head on over to Jenn’s Peas & Crayons blog and see what other bloggers are eating this week!!

San Bernardino County Museum

After last week’s Dinosaur museum trip that went well with Z, I figured it would be fun to take him to another local museum. Growing up my Mom would take my brother and I to the San Bernardino County Museum quite a bit, mainly because my brother would want to go and I would tag along.

Facts about the Museum

  • consists of 3 floors of exhibits: Life in the Air (bird exhibit), North American Mammal hall, main floor includes the gift shop, special feature exhibits and art exhibit
  • exhibits and collections in cultural and natural history
  • exploration station- contains live animals that are native to the area
  • education center, native plant & cactus gardens

Exploration Station

Z had the most fun at the exploration station. There were quite a few different reptiles/animals that he was able to touch. One of the employees was very helpful in letting Z explore the place. Z was fascinated with the “fancy” mice that were on display in a cage and the employee even brought out a step stool for Z so he could get a better look.

WE ARE NOT GETTING ANY MICE!!!

Paleo lunch @ the Museum

Since I knew we weren’t going to make it back to the house in time for lunch, I packed our lunches that morning. It took a little extra time in preparing and packing everything, but it was worth it!!

Contents of my lunch:

Columbus salame

Hard-boiled egg

marinated golden beets

Mom readers: Do you have a favorite museum that you take your kids to?

or if they are grown, was there a favorite museum or place that you always took them to?

  1. The Cleveland Art Museum is awesome. They have a display of knights armor and tapestries that Uriah loved. Gotta get back again, its been years. Being free is even better!!

  2. We loved taking the boys downtown to the Smithsonian museums, and they loved it! They also loved trips to the National Zoo. There’s a new Air and Space Museum near Dulles International Airport. Z would love it!

How adorable is Z!?! Oh my gosh that’s great that he loves museums – a tradition from your family to carry on! 🙂 How precious! Good for you for packing lunch! I pack my lunch M-F for work and while it’s annoying sometimes, it’s absolutely worth it to not have to A) spend money and B) worry about what’s in the food I’m consuming. 🙂

Great job bringing a Paleo lunch to a museum! De-di-ca-tion! I bet Z had so much fun 🙂 I used to go to the Science Museum in Boston every time I would visit my grandparents. Still my favorite one. Have a great weekend!

    • A science museum is the next type of museum that I want to take Z to. I just wish we lived closer to Los Angeles because they have much bigger exhibits/museums. Have a good weekend too!!

  5. I don’t have kids yet but I love going to Art Museums and Science Museums. I think that’s where I will bring my future kids. 🙂

    • Yes, that’s one nice aspect of already going to those places then you know where to take your future kids to! Before my son came along, I already had a yearly membership to the San Diego Zoo/Safari Park so I knew I had to take him to the zoo!!
